Primavera Montessori FAQs: YCC – 5th Grade

Does my child have the option of attending school for only three days a week?

No, all of our Montessori programs are five days per week. It is an important component of the Montessori philosophy that children experience the consistency of returning to the same environment day after day. For families who are interested in a shorter school day, a half-day program is available for Primary and our Young Children’s Community.

Can I drop my child off at school early?

Yes, we do have an early drop off program that begins at 7:30 a.m. It is available to families for an additional fee.

Can I pick my child up late?

Yes, we have an extended day program until 6:00 p.m. It is available to families for an additional fee.

Is Primavera an AMS- or an AMI-certified school?

No, our teachers have received both AMS and AMI training, but the school has made a choice not to affiliate itself with either AMS or AMI. This choice gives us the freedom to incorporate new concepts in social and emotional development and peace education into our curriculum as we see fit.

Is there a Montessori-trained teacher in every classroom?

Yes, there is a Montessori-trained teacher in every classroom, along with an assistant.

Does my child have to be toilet-trained before beginning school?

In the Young Children’s Community program, toilet-learning is a part of the curriculum, and children are expected to be working towards being self-sufficient in the bathroom. In the Primary program, children should be self-sufficient before starting school.

Can I observe a class before sending in my application?

Yes, school tours and observations are held on Wednesday mornings by appointment only. Call 443-8843 to schedule your visit.

Is there a waiting list?

Yes, we do keep a waiting list.

How do I get on the waiting list?

Download and fill out the application and ideally schedule a tour at this time. When you return the waiting list application with your $50 application fee, you will be placed on the waiting list.

How long is the waiting list?

Time on the waiting list varies. We do our best to provide applicants with an estimate of time on the waiting list before they pay their application fee. However, there are no guarantees.

Do you offer financial aid?

We do not currently offer financial aid for the Primary and Elementary programs.

The Khabele Middle and High School FAQs: 6th – 12th grades

What if my student does not attend lower school on the Primavera Campus, and enters in at 6th grade or 9th grade?  Is there space, and will he/she fit in if the kids have all been educated together in the lower years?

Approximately 1/3 of our 6th grade class will be filled with students who have matriculated from the Primavera campus.  Approximately ½ of our 9th grade class will be filled with students who have matriculated from the middle school. Therefore, it’s quite easy for new applicants to transfer in at the 6th and 9th grade levels since those are beginning years of those programs.  Also, we employ a strong no-gossip and no-bullying policy, and we actively teach our students to communicate respectfully to each other. We find that new students are always welcome with open arms and open hearts.

How many students are in a class and a grade?

Our average class size is 16 students. We have 30 to 40 students in each grade level.

What is a typical day like?

School starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m. We have early drop-off for no additional fee at 8:00 a.m. We have office hours from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m., which is an hour at the end of the day in which all of the teachers are available in their classrooms to provide one-on-one support. Sports practices take place after school between the hours of 5 and 6 p.m. Late pick up is at 6 p.m.

What classes do students take?

All students take 7 classes per year, 4 of which are required academics:  English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. (Please see this link for our course catalog and course offerings.) The other 3 classes are elective classes and include choices in the Arts, Foreign Language, and Physical Education.

Is the Middle and High School a Montessori program?

No, our Middle and High School is a college prep program accredited by the State of Texas. Our academic infrastructure is fairly traditional in that we use the same class requirements as the Texas State Recommended or Distinguished Graduation Program.  Although our academics are more traditional, the way we teach is more innovative. We integrate project-based learning, Socratic seminars, hands-on work, field trips, field work, and the use of technology in the classrooms to engage students. Our ultimate goal is for students to authentically love learning.

How do I know if the Khabele School is right for my child?

We recommend coming in for a tour to see the campus for yourself. We give tours every Thursday at 8:45 a.m.  To sign up for a tour, please click here.

Is there a waiting list?

We do carry a waiting list for certain classes during certain times of the school year. We encourage interested parents to come and visit our campus to inquire about open spaces. We accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the school year. Most classes fill by March or April for the following school year. We only allow students to go on the waiting list who have completed the full application process and have been officially accepted to the school. To apply, please see this link.

Do you offer financial aid?

Yes, we do offer financial aid for Middle and High School students. Please see this link for instructions on how to apply.
