A Brave New World – What Makes Primavera Montessori Unique

The Montessori Method of education is traditionally an “aid to life” perspective. It is a direct response to the child’s natural desire to adapt to his environmental and cultural surroundings in a meaningful and very real way. Within the child lies an extraordinary ability to literally incarnate one’s own experience, into the very fabric of his being! He does so happily and earnestly, if given the opportunity to explore his environment, move his body, utilize his senses and manipulate with his hands. At no other time in life is this natural ingenuity so prompting, as in the early years, when the child is actively constructing the self—in mind, body and spirit! For this reason, each of these aspects of development must be nurtured and consciously considered in order to truly serve the whole of the growing child.

The courage of Primavera Montessori is to create the possibility of a new design of Montessori Education for the 21st century, which incorporates the latest scientific and educational research in learning styles, temperaments, emotional intelligence, gender specific development, and brain research. Our commitment is to honor the pioneering work of Dr. Montessori, as a forward thinking visionary and scientist, and to utilize her insights and observations as a springboard into a new millennia of emergent education.

As dedicated and innovative Montessorians, an essential aspect we return to, again and again, in our collective dialog is the simple appreciation that if Maria Montessori had been able to live into the New Millennium, she would still be blazing the trail in search of new insights and discoveries into human growth and development. Montessori never intended for her methodology to be “the end all to be all” and even warned against dogmatizing the practice. Instead, what she wanted was to inspire others to take up the torch, to stay curious and to keep discovering…and so, in our own Primavera way, we are doing just that, with the understanding that truly emergent education requires a long and ever-evolving journey of contemplation, experimentation, evaluation, and transformation.

What makes Primavera Montessori unique is our collective passion to champion and resonate with each child, intellectually, emotionally and physically, while on their personal path to self discovery. We believe each of these aspects holds great value in the education of the whole child and we seek to be as creative as we can to ensure that all parts of the whole are thriving and interwoven.
