Tips on call numbers:
The first line will either be HS (High School) or MS (Middle School), indicating the grade-appropriate level. All of the books in the online catalog are currently found in the High School library. The bottom number on the spine label is the bar code number, which will be used in checking the book out and in – it is not actually part of the call number.
Some books have special designations as the last line of the call number B – biography SS – short stories OS – oversize book (shelved separately)
Fiction books are designated by [Fic] and located on the large shelves across the back wall of the library. They are arranged in alphabetical order by author.
Before you remove a book from the library room, please sign it out on the clipboard located on the white shelf by the stairs.
The non-fiction books are shelved using the Dewey Decimal system, as follows:
- Oversized (OS) books are on the top 2 shelves of the built-in cabinet to the right of the computer, ranging from the 000’s to the 900’s.
- The “regular” books start on the 3rd shelf, beginning with the 000’s, and going through the 200’s.
- The 300’s start at the left-most shelf under the windows, and the numbers proceed through the beginning 900’s on the right-most window shelf.
The 900’s continue on the large bookcase to the left of the computer.
