![]() Watching an athletic department grow is like watering bamboo: give it the energy, the love and the space to thrive and the results blossom quickly. That’s what Athletic Director Joe Sokolik has been doing over the last year, and our program has sprouted. We’ve grown from two small teams a year ago to six competitive squads representing Khabele around the city and the state. “I want to give students the opportunity to discover their athletic interests,” says Sokolik.
This year, our programs have expanded from our soccer and cross-country teams to also include tennis, basketball, volleyball, and golf. Our soccer team recorded its historic first ever win – and then followed up with two more soon after, placing 6th in the TAPPS league. Our middle school basketball and volleyball teams went undefeated in the APSA. Our girls volleyball team competed for their first year with TAPPS and our high school soccer team went undefeated in the APSA league. We also saw Ethan Dubois qualify for the National Fencing Championship this summer. And then, of course there was Sierra Sullivan, shining like a star on a Texas flag as she won the State Tennis Championship and brought home a trophy for Khabele.

Those students interested in physical education but do not want to participate in organized sports can choose from the following course offering: P.E., Yoga, Dance, and Martial Arts. Students may also take classes or participate in physical education programs outside of school and transfer the credit to Khabele. Students must participate in a minimum of four hours per week of physical activity and have their coach/ program director sign the P.E. waiver form to transfer official credit.
